Mother and Daughter Designed
Mavis (mother) and Tamara (daughter) invented the FoilemFence™ after the catalytic converter from Tamara's vehicle was stolen. She was warned by her insurance adjuster that it was likely to happen again.
The two women immediately began designing something to prevent that. They are excited to have won the challenge and are hoping that the FoilemFence™ will help others as well!
Catalytic Converter Theft is Increasing
The Edmonton Police Service reported that in the first 2 weeks of 2023, catalytic converter theft had doubled from last year. They estimate the thefts in 2022 cost Edmontonians nearly $20 million.
According to Hagerty UK, catalytic converter theft is becoming a global crimewave and Global Fleet Management has reported that catalytic converter theft is turning violent and deadly.
Crime of Opportunity - Why are Catalytic Converters Stolen?
Without protection, catalytic converters can be stolen in under 30 seconds. Catalytic converters are used to make the exhaust from your car less harmful to the environment. They contain precious metals like platinum, palladium and rhodium that are extremely rare and therefore expensive.
